In My House

Some of My Most-Used Wedding Gifts

Since we are right in the midst of wedding season and my husband’s best friend recently got engaged to a super cool lady, I decided to feature a few of my most-used wedding gifts.

Maybe this will serve as inspiration if you are trying to select a gift for a wedding you are attending or if you are newly engaged and registering for your own bridal shower. Or, even if you have been married for 25 years but need a little update in the house. Shouldn’t wives who have made it to the 25-year mark be allowed to re-register and have another bridal shower? I think so. Let’s start that tradition.

1. Pretty everyday dinnerware is essential. I have Fiestaware in Scarlet and Ivory. We use it daily but it also looks nice dressed up for a holiday meal.

2. KitchenAid hand mixer. I don’t do a lot of baking so having the KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer, although beautiful, is a bit of a waste of money and counter space for me. This hand mixer is a fantastic alternative and quite powerful. I love it.

(I used the KitchenAid hand mixer to make my toasted almond biscotti with white chocolate.)

3. Riedel wine glasses. Even a $10 bottle tastes great out of these. Who am I kidding? The bottle actually cost $8.

4. Insulated picnic basket. We picnic a lot at nearby lakes and this adorable basket is great for a quick trip. It comes with plastic dinnerware, too, which is handy.

5. Monogrammed stone coasters. As a new bride, I couldn’t get enough of my married monogram. These are extremely durable, too, as evidenced by their ability to withstand my one-year-old knocking them off the end table several times.

6. Good quality knives making kitchen prep so much easier. We love our KitchenAid set.

7. This charming bamboo salad set. This isn’t the exact set I have but similar and would make a fantastic gift.

8. A sturdy 9×13 ceramic or glass baking dish is versatile for everything from birthday cake to lasagna. The one I have is Fiesta in Scarlet but this Fiesta one in Sunflower would be fun on any table. I like that these are stylish enough to go straight from the oven to the table and they clean up so nicely compared to metal pans.

Everything seen here is available at Bed Bath & Beyond.
