I have a Kindle and it surprises me how much I love it. I never thought I’d make the departure from the real deal to an e-reader and I had my reservations when I received one as a gift. All it took was one airplane ride when I realized how convenient it is to have several books in one small, purse-sized gadget. I will fully admit that I love my Kindle and now do almost all of my reading on it.
However, there is still something to be said for keeping the classics in their original form, especially since a good selection of books adds so much character to a mantel. Of course our mantel houses a large selection of children’s books. As of now, my daughter’s favorite is Dog Wants to Play, and although that is a gripping piece of literature, these are my favorite selections on the mantel:
10: The Shining, by Stephen King
9: Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte
8: The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas
7: Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen
6: Atonement, by Ian McEwan
5: The Thornbirds, by Colleen McCullough
4: The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan
3: Unmasked: Collected Thrillers, by Louisa May Alcott
2: The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath
1: Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens
