Books: Just Kids

I know I write about books a lot, but when I read something great I just want to whole world to read it. I read Just Kids a couple of years ago and loved it. It is the memoir of singer, songwriter, “punk poet laureate” Patti Smith.

Much of the book centers on Smith’s relationship with famous and controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, which provides plenty of interesting content. If you want to know what it was like to hang out with artists and musicians in 1960s Greenwich Village, read this book. Sure, you got to party with Bob Dillon, but on the other hand, you lived with a tremendous amount of bed bugs and were starving half the time.

If you’re in the mood for a memoir, check this one out. It’s fantastic.
