When I was a child in the 1980s, car seats weren’t really a thing. I remember my brother and I standing on the vehicle seat next to my dad. Yes, standing. In the front seat.
Flash forward 25 years and now kids are supposed to be in child safety seats until they’re almost old enough to drive the vehicle themselves.
The child safety seat timeline confuses me, especially since my daughter is quite small for her age, so I was thrilled to stumble upon safercar.gov. The web site allows you to enter your child’s age, height, and weight, and provides you with information on the type of seat best for them.
The site also features ratings on various brands of car seats and information on properly installing the seat.
I wanted to share in case any other parents out there could use some extra help when it comes to picking out car seats. I hope I’m not alone. Happy travels!
