Pantone 2020 Color of the Year: Classic Blue

Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue. It is described as “a timeless and enduring blue hue elegant in its simplicity.” I have started gravitating toward blue a bit more than ever before. I recently had my dining room and kitchen painted light blue (more on that later). Here are a few fun favorites.

1. The pattern of this reversible quilt set makes it a perfect centerpiece of a master bedroom. (Bed Bath & Beyond). 2. These blue pants would really dress up a neutral top.(Loft) 3. Polka dots make this children’s dress so classic and cute. (Primary) 4. This pea coat is the perfect combination of two shades of blue. (Anthropologie) 5. These glasses are so pretty and would make a great gift. (Kate Spade) 6. This accent chair would be a perfect pop of color in an otherwise neutral living room or guest room. (Target)

Gifts That Give Back

In this season of giving, what can be better than a gift that, when purchased, also provides a charitable donation? Here are six gifts that give back. Happy shopping.

Picture2

1. Toms are a favorite of mine because they’re cute and comfy, but the company also provides a pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair of shoes purchased. The company does a variety of other charitable work as well. (Toms) 2. These adorable animals are a bit pricey, but every purchase helps battle childhood hunger. Each animal has a name, birthday, and favorite quote. (Cuddle + Kind) 3. These colorful stackable bracelets make a great gift and benefit a variety of great causes. (Pura Vida) 4. Kohl’s Cares stuffed animals each come with a book and purchases benefit the local community. The price point is usually between $5 and $10, making them a great inexpensive gift. (Kohl’s) 5. Each bottle of One Hope wine purchased benefits a different charity. (One Hope Wines) 6. A portion of the purchase of these celebrity-designed spatulas goes to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and No Kid Hungry. I have purchased a few of these. They are sturdy and can withstand high heat. Jord Wooden Watches: The Perfect Gift, a Discount, and a Giveaway

Until a few days ago, I didn’t own a watch. I told time by the placement of the sun, or, more accurately, by digging my iPhone out of my giant handbag. There had to be a better way. That better way turned out to be this beautiful wooden watch from Jord. I have partnered with Jord to offer A HOUSE WITH CHARACTER readers a chance to win a $100 gift card. All readers are eligible to use a discount code to receive 10 percent off any order.

You know I’m a sucker for cool packaging, and Jord’s packaging is absolutely perfect. My watch arrived in a sturdy wooden box, comfortably resting on an adorable burlap pillow. The box also contained a special cloth and cleaning pen for caring for the time piece.

Jord offers a variety of watches perfect for men or women. They can be engraved and ordered to perfectly fit the recipient’s (or your own) wrist. The watch fits comfortably and is a classic design I’ll wear for years to come.

My watch is the Cassia series Walnut and Vintage Rose. I wore it last Saturday on a dinner date with my husband. I love how it is versatile enough to wear to work or out on the town.

There are so many stunning time pieces to choose from. They would make a perfect graduation or Father’s Day gift as well. Or, if you’re like me and are just tired of digging your phone out of your giant handbag to tell time, you could treat yourself!

To enter the Jord gift card giveaway and get 10 percent off any order, visit this link. The giveaway will be open until June 24 and the winner will be announce right here on A HOUSE WITH CHARACTER.

Fresh Flowers from Bloomsy Box

I was so excited when the good people at Bloomsybox.com contacted me and asked if they could send me a bouquet. That’s the first time anyone ever asked me if they could send me flowers. Of course I responded with a resounding YES! What arrived was this gorgeous bouquet of red roses.

IMG_2074

If you haven’t heard of Bloomsy Box yet, it is a subscription service providing a monthly single-variety bouquet to spruce up your home or delight someone you love.

IMG_2064

Subscriptions start at $34.99 a month and all bouquets come with free overnight shipping anywhere in the United States.

The blooms you receive are a surprise each month, which is a concept I love. It’s like sending yourself flowers, but still having the surprise of receiving them from someone else!

IMG_2066

The packaging is adorable.

IMG_2067

The flowers are wrapped and come with flower food, but no vase. If you’re like me, that’s absolutely no problem because I have gobs of old vases and pitchers just waiting in the cupboard in case someone (hubby?) decides to bring me flowers on a whim.

I opted to use this crystal pitcher we received as a wedding gift.

IMG_2068

They also feature a weekly subscription option if monthly flowers just aren’t enough. You can skip a month, change plans, or cancel anytime, no questions asked. Plans auto-renew and may be cancelled at any time.

IMG_2069

Orders placed by May 4 will be delivered May 6, just in time for Mother’s Day!

There are also some gorgeous bouquets you can select to send to someone special for a one-time-only purchase. I’m partial to the big bunch of sunflowers.

Note: Bloomsy Box provided a free box of flowers to A HOUSE WITH CHARACTER for this post, but all opinions expressed are truly my own.

Sephora Holiday Gift Guide

Sephora is such a fun place to be. Unfortunately, because I live in the middle of nowhere, the nearest Sephora is something like five hours away. I relish my few opportunities each year to visit a Sephora location and place an occasional order online. Here are a few items from Sephora that would make great gifts for you, me, or any of the ladies in your life.

Sephora

1. My sister-in-law recently gave me a gift set of Philosophy Snow Angel. It is fresh and light. I love it. 2. Who doesn’t need good hand cream in winter? Wouldn’t this Tony Moly apple hand cream be the cutest teacher’s gift? It is also available in a tangerine. 3. Winter has my hair all dried out and thirsting for a good deep-conditioning treatment like this Drybar Mudslide Nourishing Hair Mask. 4. While I wish Clinique could have come up with a less creepy name for the Whole Lotta Chubby gift set, I would be thrilled to receive this as a gift. These lip and eye colors are two of my all-time favorite beauty products. 5. Sephora’s Colorful Five Eye Shadow Palette in No. 8 Sunrise to Sunset Bronze features neutral shades that would be flattering on anyone, and it comes with a brush. I get so annoyed when eyeshadow compacts don’t. 6. I am a huge fan of roller ball fragrances. They’re so convenient for travel or just to throw in the purse. This Tory Burch fragrance is light with just a hint of spice, and it comes in the most adorable holiday cracker packaging.
