My Top 10 List: Movies to Watch with Your Mother or Daughter

My mother and I have seen all of these together on numerous occasions and I’m working on introducing my daughter to them.

10: A River Runs Through It: Not exactly a chick flick, but just so amazing.

9: Urban Cowboy: The song Bud and Sissy dance to at their wedding reception is actually my parents’ song.

8: Pretty Woman: I will probably wait to introduce my daughter to this one until we’re ready to have that “what’s a prostitute?” conversation.

7: Legends of the Fall: Because, as my husband always reminds me, this is actually a chick flick disguised as a war movie.

6: August, Osage County: This is a recent addition as my mother and I just watched it a little more than a year ago. It’s fantastic. My favorite part involves a lot of foul language so I will wait to introduce my daughter to this one for a while.

5: Dumb & Dumber: OK, this one isn’t really to watch with your mother but she probably has seen it about 200 times when you have been watching it with your brother.

4: My Best Friend’s Wedding: I realize there are four Julia Roberts movies on this list. You should only be shocked that I limited it to four.

3: A League of Their Own: Because there’s no crying in baseball!

2: Fried Green Tomatoes: I’m older and I have more insurance.

1: Steel Magnolias: The part where Tom Skerritt is giving Julia Roberts away at her wedding and says “Her mother and I!” really loudly because he damaged his hearing shooting birds out of the tree kills me every time. And that armadillo groom’s cake. “It looks like an autopsy.”
