Like many South Dakotans, my husband, daughter, and I were snowed in on Christmas Day. We canceled plans to visit family in North Dakota and stayed close to home.
Although the weather wreaked havoc on holiday plans for so many, I couldn’t help but relish in being in our own home, just the three of us, on Christmas morning.
The hustle and bustle of the holiday season gave way to a relaxing morning making breakfast and watching our daughter enjoy her presents from Santa.
We thought of all of you, dear friends and family, and hoped you were safe and warm.
Because the weather didn’t hit until Christmas morning, we were able to attend the children’s worship service at our own church for the first time ever. Then, after a drive around our small town to look at lights, we returned home for our own little Christmas Eve dinner.
It was the perfect, simple Christmas. The weather forced us to get back to basics this Christmas and focus on the real reason for celebrating. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I’m excited for all that 2017 will bring.
